Induction lamps use mercury, it is in a solid form which can be easily reclaimed when recycling and is less likely to produce local contamination, they also use far less mercury per hour of operation, than conventional HID lighting.
Induction lamps are mostly made of glass and some copper, minor plastics, the phosphor coating in the lamp is non toxic and the mercury amalgam is easily removed. As a result at the end of life, the lamp can be stripped down into its component parts and easily recycled.
